Challenge: As the debate around comprehensive immigration reform began to heat up after President Obama’s re-election, our firm was brought on to be part of a national effort to promote high-skilled worker components of the immigration overhaul bill. Recognizing that support from New York’s political, business and civic leaders – the epicenter of several high-skilled industries, including the burgeoning Silicon Alley – would be critical to successfully reforming the system, a coalition of immigration reform supporters turned to the Parkside Group to initiate public affairs campaign, generating earned media coverage to educate the public about this crucial issue.
Solution: Working with chambers of commerce and business advocacy organizations, local, state and federal elected officials, tech entrepreneurs, small business owners, and higher education institutions, and leveraging their support with earned media exposure, we successfully helped push high-skilled worker immigration reform into the last comprehensive congressional bill. In addition to coalition building and earned media, the campaign included a significant grasstops intelligence component, gathering information from key governmental decision-makers.
